Our pilot countries are forging local partnerships and powering sustainability across Europe

The PSL pilot countries are working hard to forge local partnerships and community-focused initiatives to champion sustainability. From public transport companies and educational institutions to civil society organizations and municipal governments, these collaborations are making sustainability accessible, engaging, and impactful. By tailoring efforts to local contexts and fostering active participation, these partnerships demonstrate how collective action can drive meaningful change toward a more sustainable future. Read about what our pilot countries have been up to:

Circular Change and The City of Ljubljana, Slovenia

  • Interactive Events to Promote Sustainability: We successfully collaborated with LPP, Ljubljana’s public transport company, and the Ljubljana Zoo to host a prize game encouraging sustainable mobility. Check out the campaign highlights on Instagram: LPP and Zoo Campaign. During the European Sustainable Mobility Week, we partnered with Zavod Varna Pot to measure the community’s carbon footprint, further promoting awareness and engagement. Learn more here: Sustainable Mobility Week Activities. We also plan to collaborate with LPP again in 2025 to organize another prize game that promotes sustainable practices and encourages community participation.
  • Innovative and Engaging Community Initiatives: In 2024, we organized several exchange events, including a post-New Year gift exchange, book exchange, and toy exchange, which were warmly received by the community. These events address a significant need for sustainable consumption practices and foster a sense of connection. In 2025, we aim to host more such events in collaboration with local partners, who will take the lead in organizing them. Additionally, we held a Panel on Sustainable Fashion at the City Museum of Ljubljana, focusing on the role of the circular economy in the fashion industry. Explore the event gallery here: Sustainable Fashion Panel.
  • Future Collaborations: In 2025, we plan to engage with companies across Slovenia to promote the PSL tool among their employees, positioning it as an accessible entry point into sustainability and the circular economy. By partnering with businesses, we aim to drive greater awareness and action in corporate environments, contributing to a broader cultural shift toward sustainable practices.

Sitra, Finland

  • Eläkeliitto (The Finnish Pensioner’s Foundation): We created a custom URL which was shared in the foundation's monthly magazine together with a message that challenged all 120 000 subscribers to take the Lifestyle Test and make a plan. Further, there are plans to create a more tailored challenge campaign for a smaller subset of the foundation's active members and track their Lifestyle changes over a period of few months, and write an article about it afterwards.
  • Region of North Savo: The region of North Savo asked to utilise the Lifestyle Test as part of their SISU sustainable lifestyle campaign whose goal is to inspire and activate the citizens of North Savo to try out more sustainable lifestyles. Sitra created a custom URL and automated bi-weekly reporting for the SISU campaign coordinators. The SISU campaign has concluded at the end of November 2024.
  • Finnish teacher's union/City of Lahti: Sitra has engaged with the Finnish teacher’s union and created ready-made teaching materials about the Lifestyle Test that any teacher in Finland could freely use in their own classes. This engagement included two webinar presentations where the Lifestyle Test and the accompanying teaching materials were introduced to an audience of around 100 Finnish teachers. Additionally, the city of Lahti has approached Sitra and expressed interest at utilising and possibly updating these teaching materials to be used in Lahti's official curriculum for primary and lower secondary education.

Green Apes and Fondazione per lo Sviluppo Sostenibile, Italy

  • Collaboration with Public Partners: Partnerships with cities and municipalities have so far yielded the highest number of test completions. We are confident that continuing to involve local governments and encouraging them to promote and utilize the test on their platforms will remain a highly effective strategy.
  • Collaboration with Medium to Large Corporations: Collaborations with medium to large corporations (with more than 200 employees) have proven to be highly effective in driving engagement and increasing test completions. We believe that strengthening these partnerships and encouraging companies to actively promote the test within their organizations will continue to be a powerful strategy for expanding our reach and impact.
  • Collaboration with Consulting Firms: We believe consulting firms specializing in sustainability can play a key role as multipliers for the Lifestyle Test. By collaborating with these firms, which guide companies on their sustainability journeys, we aim to amplify engagement and drive greater participation in the test. Partnering with such firms could help us effectively integrate the test into corporate strategies, further expanding its reach and impact.

Zeytince EYDD, Turkey

  • University Collaboration: We signed agreements with three universities in Izmir to promote the widespread use of the PSLifestyle tool among campus students.
  • Partnership with the Ministry of National Education: In collaboration with and approved by the Ministry of National Education, we are implementing the “Carbon Footprint Project” to promote the PSLifestyle tool among students in 29 public high schools in Izmir.
  • Collaboration with Municipalities: We signed agreements with four district municipalities in Izmir to implement the PSLifestyle tool among residents. Additional agreements are currently in progress.

CSCP, Germany

  • Lifestyle Test in schools in Solingen: In 2025, we will collaborate with the Solingen school administrators to include the Lifestyle Test in the curriculum for the year
  • Collaboration with Wuppertal University: We are currently exploring collaboration opportunities with Wuppertal University, specifically the synergies between PSLifestyle and their new project on measuring emissions for sustainable lifestyles.
  • Campaigns with CSOs: We will continue collaborating with the CSOs who have participated in the workshop, as nearly all of the participants stated that they are interested in running their own Lifestyle Test campaign.

EKPIZO and Athena RC, Greece

  • Collaboration with schools and universities for the presentation and integration of the Lifestyle Test in educational programmes in order to increase the environmental awareness of young people.
  • Cooperation with representatives of civil society organisations and participation in joint activities to promote the Lifestyle Test.
  • Lobbying the relevant ministries in Greece and trying to convince them to incorporate the lifestyle test into their websites.

Rohetiiger, Estonia

  • Local focus: The most important partnerships will be local municipalities all over Estonia, starting with 2 largest cities and 3 municipalities, we're already in negotiations with.
  • Member outreach: We will continue to involve the member organisations of the Green Tiger platform, consisting of about 100 members who are sustainable pioneers in Estonia.
  • Education: We will try to involve upper secondary schools as suggested in our workshops, involve families through their children and try to bring the Lifestyle Test to 16-19 year old students to start the discussion about sustainable choices at home.

DECO, Portugal:

  • Further develop existing partnerships: Continue to develop partnerships with entities that are already using a custom URL, in order to increase the number of tests carried out (we have 11 partnerships in place and 9 concluded campaigns)
  • Create new partnerships: with entities so that they can use a personalized URL (we have 11 entities interested in joining and we will present the project to others)
  • Pursue avenues initiated in the Stakeholder Workshops: Deepening contacts with the entities that attended the Stakeholder Workshop
