Methods Paper for the Lifestyle Test – Portugal

The PSLifestyle test measures individuals’ lifestyle-induced carbon footprints across four domains: housing, transport, food, and other consumption. It employs a consumption-based accounting approach using both bottom-up Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) and top-down Environmentally Extended Input-Output (EEIO) methods. Emissions from public services and investments are excluded. The test converts user-reported or estimated consumption into CO₂ equivalents through domain-specific emission factors, balancing ease of use with methodological rigor. Adapted from the 1.5-Degree Lifestyles framework, it provides actionable insights for sustainable living without requiring detailed consumption data from users.
