Norway joins the Lifestyle Test initiative with launch of Klimatesten.no

Norway has joined the Lifestyle Test initiative with the launch of Klimatesten.no, specifically adapted to Norwegian consumption patterns. The partners responsible for the Norwegian edition are: NHO Service og Handel, the NHO community's second largest national association, with 7,155 member companies with a total turnover of NOK 213 billion, Framtiden i våre hender, Norway's largest environmental and solidarity organisation with almost 50,000 members, Parat, a workers' organization under YS that organises broadly across industries and sectors, representing over 44,000 workers, and Forbrukerrådet, an independent interest organisation that works to give consumers power and the opportunity to make good choices.

The Lifestyle Test is already in use across nine European countries, 8 of whom are pilot partners of the project, the ninth being Poland.

The Norwegian version incorporates local data and habits, offering insights into emissions from transport, food, housing, and shopping. It also provides practical actions to lower carbon footprints while saving money and improving well-being. The test is designed to be user-friendly and engaging, making it easier for individuals to understand their impact and take meaningful steps toward more sustainable living.

The goals of the launch are to:

  • Drive users to take the test: with targeted ads, engaging social media content, media coverage and internal initiatives to attract users.
  • Increase awareness of the Lifestyle Test: through media coverage, social media content and podcast ads.
  • Gain data for future campaign pushes: then leverage the data collected for use in marketing and press pushes moving forward.

“The more people who take the test, the more we learn about people’s emissions and barriers. This is very important information for both politicians and businesses in the transition to a more circular society,” says Anja Bakken Riise, leader of Framtiden i våre hender.

Beyond individual benefits, Klimatesten.no also serves as a valuable resource for policymakers and businesses by offering anonymised data on consumer habits. This information can help shape sustainability policies and strategies that support Norway’s climate goals. By better understanding the barriers people face in adopting sustainable practices, decision-makers can implement targeted initiatives that drive real change.

The test is part of Norway’s broader efforts to promote responsible consumption and reduce greenhouse gas emissions. With over half of Norway’s total emissions linked to private consumption, tools like Klimatesten.no play a crucial role in the country’s transition toward a greener future.
